- Nathaniel was the second child of Rev. Joseph Moore and his wife, Rebecca Foster. Nathaniel was born in New Jersey; family Bible Records, 1860 US Census, death records for Rush County, Indiana. Rev. Moore enlisted in the Revolutionary War from New Jersey and had moved his family back to New Jersey (by Fall of 1775) to be of help to his mother (Sarah Burroughs Moore). Nathaniel served in the War of 1812. He was mainly a farmer; but from 1791 to 1800, he shipped goods on flatbed boats (barges) along the Ohio River. He supplied lumber to area counties form 1822 to 1827; then in 1828 he contracted to carry mail from Cincinnati to Portsmouth, Ohio. Nathaniel transported the mail through the Fall of 1840. He married Nancy Ann Welch, a daughter of James Welch and Abigail Meeker. They were married March 6, 1799 in Mason County, Kentucky. They had eleven children; six sons and five daughters. After the death of Nancy in 1844, Nathaniel went to Rush County, Indiana to reside with his son, Nathaniel. Nathaniel died at his son's home in August of 1861.
